After nine years in a row, the Marie Claire magazine along with its 25 editions around the world, awarded the International Prize of perfume. Nolwenn du Laz, deputy editor-in-chief from the Marie Claire magazine, in France, has let me have her impressions, about those prizes chosen in unusual conditions…
« Despite the circumstances into which the vote happened, everybody was very responsive and present », she said. The 25 editions were very dynamic, But, a new astonishing factor emerged with new brands, such as Byredo and Francis Kurdjian, while the great brands ,used to come systematically first.
Therefore, the choices were more audacious, more particular… Nevertheless, considering the climax we are living in, it shows how important perfume is and the impuse, it generates.
In this period we are living in, Nolwenn admits to feel the need for more perfume than ever, for herself.Shesets her sights onto musk fragrances. As a matter of fact, musk is enveloping, reassuring, next to the skin, just like a comforter. She will cite Musc Ravageur, 1957 from Chanel, Girl from Rochas Colonia Futura. Of course, without mentioning that her house is scented with candles.

The best perfumes
Fleur from Byredo, the best feminine perfume
According to the jury, Fleur from Byredo is a fragrance out of the box. Jérôme Epinette, perfumer at Robertet in New York, has expressed the youth spirit with its happy moments and contradictions in an odour. There, the rose becomes turbulent with a mandarine and a pinch of safran on the side. Then, the queen of flowers withdraws in order to leave room to a sensual trio of amber, vanilla and blond woods.
L’homme à la rose from Francis Kurkdjian, the best masculine perfume
A rose in a masculine version, was the challenge that Francis Kurkjian gave himself. In fact, the rose is usually reserved to women in the West, as in the East, the men wear it with great ease. That why the Damascena rose and the Centifolia rose are th two distinguished guests, in this fragrance. They are two roses to which the perfumer added on one side grapefruit and sage, and on the other, woods and amber. No doubt, this rose in the masculine version claims to be contemporary and refined.
